Speech Pathology

Paediatric Speech Pathologists support children’s ability to communicate effectively, participate in learning, connect with others and experience positive mealtimes. We work in partnership with families to build skills, confidence and independence across home, childcare, kindergarten and school environments.

Our Speech Pathology team provides assessment and intervention in the following areas:

Speech Sounds: Supporting children to develop clear speech production so they can express themselves and be understood by others.

Receptive and expressive language: Supporting children to understand spoken language, follow directions, develop vocabulary and use language to share their ideas, needs and wants.

Fluency: Supporting children who stutter to develop smoother, more confident communication.

Social Communication: Supporting children to understand and develop their own unique communication style and navigate social interactions in ways that are meaningful and authentic, helping to build positive relationships with others.

Feeding, swallowing and mealtimes: Supporting safe swallowing and the development of feeding skills to explore and enjoy a wider range of foods. Our Speech Pathology team works with infant feeding development and tube feeding transitions as well as supporting positive mealtime routines and food exploration.

Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC): Supporting children who benefit from alternative or additional ways to communicate through personalised AAC systems, visual supports and assistive technology to promote independence and meaningful participation.

Reading and spelling: Supporting the development of literacy skills, including reading accuracy, comprehension and spelling.
