Science Group

Next group: Monday 7th July - Friday 11th July, 10:15am - 11:45am daily

Suitable for children aged 6-12 years

Our new Science Group provides budding scientists with the opportunity to engage in a variety of sensory science experiments including making Play Doh, a volcano and slime. This group supports skill development in teamwork, collaboration, following instructions, negotiation and problem solving.

Please note that this group is not suitable for children who are oral sensory seeking and who may wish to place ingredients in their mouths.

Session format:
Day 1:

  • Parents attend the session and work with their child to create a science experiment and get to know the other children and their parents

Days 2-5:

  • Children work with the therapist on a collaborative science experiment. When appropriate, children may be able to take their creation home.

  • Children are supported to develop this language (e.g. following instructions, following a recipe) and social communication skills (e.g. working as a team, taking turns)

  • Children receive a recipe which they can take home to recreate their experiment

  • Parents are encouraged to interact while their children are working with the therapist
